If you were to open my brain and take a dive into its figurative deep end you would find life rafts of sayings and expressions floating everywhere. My mind is filled with words in all shapes, sizes and forms.  In my mind, there is a series of original song lyrics and captions I fantasize about attaching to stories both written and unwritten. I write captions in my head all day long for possible outcomes of unforeseen scenarios as well as actual scenarios. I pick new theme songs to movie openers, make up raps about people I know and even poems in rhyming couplets on a good day. If you’re not paying attention, you might swim up on an ancient lyric by Phil Collins, meet Slash guitar jamming or possibly Juliet on her balcony. My mother always told me my grandmother’s favorite book was the dictionary. Who needs twenty three and me when you have Grandma Henrietta in your loins? It’s really all I need to know.

While thinking about this post, it felt natural to have a Broadway musical reference in the title to underscore the excitement I feel about this look. The idea of colorful, happy and bright spring and summer plaid makes me smile. Naturally, “Brooke and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Skirt” was an obvious title choice.  I’ve been meditating over the appropriateness of plaid for spring and summer a lot lately! You too?? I must thank and give credit to Rosie Assoulin’s knockout plaid dress from her resort 2018 collection. In my opinion, this dress is the dress that changed the face of plaid from a sad face emoji to the one with double hearts for eyeballs.  She gave plaid a lift and then some. I think about her plaid dress often. Her sophisticated yet unexpected mixture of color is masterful and modern. Rosie made plaid playful. She gave old stiff plaid a new lease on life. She’s freer, lighter, happy and smiling. This plaid just Benjamin buttoned herself back to youth.

I know in last weeks post I basically promised Derek Lam my first born child however, this little skirt and matching electric blue top quite literally gave me the chills. Listen, you can’t help who you love in this life- no apologies for the repeat performance here #Derekforever. “Mad for plaid” is an overused expression--not original, I know (sigh), BUT the truth is, I am quite simply mad for this seasons colorful plaid. Plaid, like so many things is speaking to me and seems to be coming at me from all sides. Today I am honored to be part of a panel of fabulous women in the fashion industry at the bank of Ireland for an initiative called #wearingirish. We will discuss the world of fashion, retail and marketing and look at the incredible designs of Ireland’s rising fashion talent, a country known for its tartan contribution. I am looking forward to wearing my plaid technicolor dream skirt and meeting the dreamers who are reimagining fashion as we speak! I’ll be dreaming too and thinking of what to call everything!
