Capri Sun

Please tell me you’ve heard of Capri Sun? Am I dating myself?  Raise your hand if you remember with joy unearthing one of those silver vacuum packed drinks inside your “Strawberry Shortcake” lunchbox? Not only was the juice inside delicious, the imagery of palm trees and undulating waves on the packaging made me feel like I was sipping something special, even exotic at lunchtime #childofthe80’s. Ok, this is a stretch-- I know BUT perhaps it was the Capri Sun that planted the original seed of #capri in my young impressionable mind? Whatever the reason, Capri and the Amalfi Coast have been beckoning me for as long as I can recall. Of course there were also the Slim Aarons photographs, visions of Jackie in her signature headscarf, dreams of customized sandals, seafood pasta and just an inner knowing I needed to get there asap.

Let’s just say my actual encounter with Capri was nothing short of magical. In good company, I climbed to the peaks and valleys of Sorrento, Ana Capri, Capri, Positano and Ravello. We swam, we hiked and boated our way around majestical rock formations admiring the grottos and inexplicable carvings inside of caves and on the rocks that often appeared to be actual human carvings but weren’t. I did things I never thought I would do including jumping off of a boat into the sea once we pulled close to Capri and loving it! I was overwhelmed by nature in every way and found myself gaping with an open mouth at everything-- even rendered silent by the utter beauty of it all (silence is not my norm).  I am grateful to have had this time. It reminded me how beautiful and big the world is and how nice it is to see a big open sky and just stare at it.  I’m going to try and keep some of the “Dolce Vita” with me and slow it down just a bit- one must take time to smell the Limoncello! It feels great to be home with these new memories and pasta recipes under my belt.

I’m attaching some images from this magical trip and some of my favorite items I packed and wore along the way.

Ciao for now,

xox
