Sweater Weather
Above KTLA Segment from 11/10/2020 with Stylecaster
Sweaters are the undeniable winner as far as trends go for the 2020 winter season. The return of cardigans is noteworthy because it is everything you think it’s not. Erase images of basic ho hum styles worn solely to warm you while sitting in your office chair. The cardigan of 2020 has personality. Think of it as the replacement fashion piece for blazers and motorcycle jackets which feel less compelling to reach for when considering a living room Zoom meeting. The cardigan of 2020 is elevated enough to take you anywhere you want to go and spunky enough to lift your spirits. There is truly a style for everyone right now.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Other sweater winners include volume sleeves, inclusive of puffs, balloon sleeve silhouettes and novelty arm treatments. The puff still feels feminine and fun to me I’m a big fan of brands who are experimenting with mixed media fabrications on sleeves such as Cinq a Sept and Veronica Beard, two of my favorite contemporary brands!
Cutouts are less new to fashion but I love the way they’ve reinvented knitwear. The look is subtle when done well and can be architectural and cool. Cut out looks are my pick for a date night where you need to stay warm.
Amidst all the options, designers this season have gone back to the archives and brought back traditional prints including fairisle to the sweater category. While the look is still very much apres ski, the novelty is in styling it differently. Consider wearing this fashion classic back to leather pants or even a satin skirt.
And last but not least are statement collars. The oversized doily like collar was something that began on the runway and feels like a spirited homage of RBG! This face framing detail is a fashion girl must have. If this look is not you, consider elevating more basic styles with subtle collar interest.
Stay Warm!!
