Who wears short shorts? Not that many people I know in real life actually. Why? Short shorts pose infinite challenges that don’t always make sense from a functional standpoint and it can be really difficult to find a great pair. Right now, all I know for sure is that I want to be able to wear shorts in the summertime that are equal parts attractive, comfortable and versatile. This doesn’t seem like much to ask but we all know this can be a tricky proposition. A pair of shorts, that look a little more elevated than denim, feel comfortable and actually allow you to sit down in the company of others is a unicorn item in fashion. Who’s with me?
2019 was a big year for shorts. The breaking news was the return of the biker short back to the fashion landscape. Some, including me, were originally skeptical of its lifespan. Raise your hand if you can’t get the image of Princess Diana in a pair of biker shorts, scrunched tube socks and Harvard college sweatshirt out of your mind? Over the last year, I’ve seen this image a minimum of a hundred times on Instagram alone and consider it among the most validating pictures for anyone making the case for bike shorts. The truth is that since March 14th, 2020 I understand and appreciate why bike shorts and Bermuda length shorts augment my new reality. As we consider our summers and how we will socialize, it is more important than ever we have shorts that work cross functionally.
