Celebrity Vacation Style

Is it just me or is every celebrity in Italy right now with some obscenely delicious looking carbohydrate in the frame ! I’ve enjoyed tracking everyones stylish journeys abroad so much that it inspired an entire segment on E! News this past friday. It’s also inspiring me to book a trip to Italy pronto!

The Skirt That Slipped Into My Fashion Universe

Sometimes when you blink and open your eyes you can see something you never noticed before. This is sort of what happened to me with the slip skirt trend! There I was, minding my own business when bam like a bolt of lightening everyone had one on in leopard print or a close cousin print from the animal kingdom and was looking fresh and fabulous.

Don't Underestimate the Underpinning

I get great satisfaction from rewearing my clothing. I once had an assistant suggest that I wear a different necklace because she was tired of looking at it #lol (I can’t make this stuff up)!! Over the course of my life, I have come to appreciate the style of women who are creative about repurposing signature items in their wardrobes. To me, this signifies a level of confidence about their style.

Lemonade

This time last year I was sailing on a boat in the Tyrrhenian sea bound for Capri for the first time. I forgot to get nervous about all the things that I usually get nervous about on boats because the level of mesmerization I felt with my physical surroundings squelched any notion of anxiety.

A Dying Art

And I’m not referencing Easter Egg dying. Just when you had relegated your tie dye tees to the Halloween section of your closet or preserved them for the inevitable 70’s theme costume party corner of your abode, fashion had other plans for this print and dying wasn’t one of them!

Proportionately Greater

Have you ever gone to meet a girlfriend for dinner and her outfit is simply perfection? To the point where all you can focus on throughout the meal is how to recreate the essence of it the next time you leave the house?

Utility Suits Me

It’s not simply that I love fatigue green or the excuse to accessorize my outfit with aviator sunglasses, it’s that I have always responded to the look of army jackets, cargo pants and classic utility style jumpsuits.  There is something unfussy yet so “cool girl” about the style and usually the women wearing utility suits have an air about them.

I Heart Hearts

I’m just a girl in the world and I unapoligetically love heart motifs. I came out of the birth canal with a sticker book filled with them, bestowing them on any surface that seemed fit including my earlobes. For me leopard prints, stars and hearts are always in fashion and no matter how many times they are reinvented or reimagined they feel good.

Day Glow

Brace yourselves, this idea is sure to leave some asking the question, really?? Yes, really. Sometimes trends emerge that make us feel unsure. Usually, it’s because they are presented to our eyes in exaggerated proportions or we have reserved them mentally in the “Halloween” section of our brains. The fun for me has always been to extract a dime dropper’s worth of a new and potentially scary trend into my imaginary fashion beaker and combining it with existing ingredients in my closet.

Picking My Spots

It’s hard to believe it’s the start of another new year!  Looking back my propensity has been to try and connect the dots to see what I accomplished or to make meaning of what it all meant? Did I get where I wanted to go? Did I stick to my list of resolutions? Am I where I want to be in life? It feels like these thoughts are unavoidable. Rear view evaluation mode can be a troublesome spot for me. I think rather than looking to connect the dots backwards, my goal is be where I am right now and to be content there.

Going Teddy

I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m a dreamer. I know I’m not the only one. Not just the day variety but the intense REM vivid dreamer.  Let’s just say these visions have layers potentially too complex to decipher or just the opposite, they are so overt it’s absurd and I should pay way more attention!

Puff The Magic Shoulder

Powder Puffs, Cream Puffs, Puff Pastry, a Puff of Smoke and of course our favorite magic dragon. The word “puff” conjures the sweet and frivolous as well as something elusive and mysterious. When it comes to this seasons fashion, I’d like to think this “puff” is a little bit of both. So what is a puff shoulder you ask?

Skirt Stake

I’m putting my proverbial fashion stake in the ground. I want the world to know how much I love denim skirts right now. I’m going with my gut on this one. I’ve been proclaiming my affection for denim skirts for a few months to the surprise of many and even an occasional eye roll.  My friends know that when I love or believe in something, you will hear about it on repeat until it works its way out of my system #sorryguys #love you.

Work With What You've Got

This Friday, on the Today Show,  I had the opportunity to talk about how to repurpose your summer wardrobe staples come fall. I honed in on three key pieces: white jeans, a striped tee shirt and a dark ground floral maxi dress. As far as I’m concerned, you do not need to relegate these items to the back of the closet at the stroke of Labor Day; you can re-imagine these pieces with some easy style updates.

Set Match Game

Yes, I love tennis and no, I couldn’t help myself when thinking of a title for this post. The new wave of coordinated set dressing really excites me. When I was growing up, my mother emphasized the importance of matching whenever possible and I came to intuit over time that matching and coordination signaled to the world you had your act together. As a child of the 80’s, matchy matchy styles and strategic color coordination have always looked right to my eye, even when the idea of matching became theoretically “out”. The return of all things coordinated is one big #throwbackthursday for me and I like it.

#ACK Bound

ACK is the airport abbreviation for my favorite place on earth---Nantucket. I’ve been going there every summer including the one I spent in utero and it is definitely part of my essence. If you were to come over to my apartment you might notice the embroidered throw pillow on my bed with the word Nantucket sewn proudly across the front.

Sole Mates

I’ve always had a thing about shoes and feet. It’s hard for me to watch women walk in shoes that are uncomfortable. It actually pains me because I know first hand how much it can hurt! Johnson and Johnson owes me one for my support of Band Aids through the years.  When I read fashion advice columns telling women they must invest in sky high heels to look their best I wince.
